Fear is an epidemic in our society, we fear beginnings, we fear endings, we fear change, we fear being stuck, we fear success (yes really!) and we fear failure.
Whenever you take the chance to move into the unfamiliar you put yourself into new territory and you experience fear. It is this fear that presents you from moving forward in life. So many people choose to short circuit their lives and choose the easy, more comfortable way.
Dealing with your fear isn’t a case of booking a number of therapy sessions but a re-education. A re-education of the mind processes, not something we are really taught in school! Listening to your intuition or your gut feeling can assist you enormously to shift from living behind the barriers of fear to experiencing life the way you want to live it.
Our intuition is the ability to understand something instinctively without the need for conscious reasoning. However, be ready to let bad feelings go, negative feelings can cloud intuition which is why when you are sad, angry or depressed bad decisions can easily happen.
We are not normally taught how to tune into our own subconscious, yet it has the answers to all our questions. All you have to do is find a way out of your own self imposed prison is to retrain your thinking.
The easy short circuit route many take is ‘I’m not good enough’, or ‘it’s too hard’. Ask yourself this, are you truly happy where you are in life right now (if you’re reading this I know you want to make a change somewhere in your life!), it could be in any area of your life, health, relationships, career, finance, spirituality to name a few areas.
The only way to move out of fear is to go out and do that something. Yes, moving out of your comfort zone is how to overcome the fear but this has a double edged sword as once moved out of your comfort zone, guess what happens, a new fear arises! So the fear never goes away as long as you are growing. Don’t let this deter you, knowing that you are progressing forward and feeling the fear, you are making positive changes and most importantly achieving growth!
How to manage the fear is quite simple.
Live in the question.
By being still you can connect to your intuition. This can be achieved by breath work, meditation, being in nature or yoga.
The ultimate question you need to repeat to yourself is what are you feeling about the fear.
Be honest with yourself.
Have an inner dialogue with yourself as you would with a very dear close friend, be kind, compassionate and listen.
Acknowledge your own feelings, don’t excuse them, feel them. Enquire deeper where those feelings are coming from. Be honest, there is no judgement.
Fear can have a surface story such as fears that just happen such as aging, being alone, change, illness and those that require action such as going to a new school, changing careers, ending or beginning a relationship or making a mistake.
The other level of fear is from the ego, this looks like rejection, failure, and being vulnerable. These are all to do with the inner state of mind. It reflects your internal dialogue and thought patterns. If you tell yourself that you are not good enough then your fear will be rejection and failing.
An exercise which will help you feel more connected to your intuition and face your fears.
- List the advantages of staying stuck in a certain area in your life, what are you holding onto that no longer serves you, a relationship, job, house, materials objects? What do you not have to face? What comfort are you getting?
- Notice what you say in conversations, not only with yourself but with others around you. Do you complain, criticize or judge other people?
- Determine what you want from life and take action!
Your intuition has your back all you have to do is develop more trust in yourself that you can handle whatever comes your way.
Your intuition wants the very best for you because it knows you can handle it!
